Our recent piece on Peter Jackson's forthcoming remake of The Dam Busters provoked quite a flurry of emails - much of it concerning how the screenplay writer will deal with the delicate matter of Guy Gibson's dog.
It's a tricky one, especially since Jackson has already declared that his version will be "as authentic as possible and as close to the spirit of the original as possible".
Well, time will tell how Hollywood deals with the black Labrador question, but in the meantime we're delighted to report that 617 Squadron itself is offering logistical support for the moviemaking operation:

I do hope that you can help me get in contact with Peter Jackson. I am the Press and Media Officer for Royal Air Force Lossiemouth and among our operational squadrons we have the current 617 Sqn "The Dambusters". Your recent article mentions that Peter Jackson will be remaking the original film and I would like to get in touch with him in order to offer any form of assistance in the shape of research, history, we even have a replica of the original bomb. Obviously the squadron have an extensive history with many original artifacts from the raid which could prove to be very useful to Mr Jacksons research. If there is any way that you can help me I would be very grateful.
Many Thanks
Terry Cowan
Flight Lieutenant Media and Communications Officer, RAF Lossiemouth
Terrific. Let's see if the awesome reach of El Reg extends to Peter Jackson. If someone from his production company wants to drop us a line, we'll put you in touch with Flight Lieutenant Cowan. ®
